The academic programs, degree requirements, course descriptions, and graduate faculty are detailed in this catalog. Graduate School admission and degree requirements (see the Academic Policies, Requirements, and Procedures) are minimum standards; students should consult their program’s page for any additional requirements.  A program may offer one or more concentrations within the major. The requirements for these concentrations may be found on the program’s page.

Graduate instruction is the responsibility of the Graduate Faculty. Each program page includes a listing of their Graduate Faculty. Faculty teaching in interdisciplinary programs are listed under the appropriate programs in which they hold an appointment. Within each faculty listing, the first of the two dates indicates the year in which their highest degree was earned; the second date indicates the year they first joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The 400- and 500-level courses offered by Southern Illinois University Carbondale are listed numerically within each program’s page. Each course has a three-digit identification number. Courses numbered 400–499 are open to both undergraduate seniors and graduate students, unless specified otherwise. Courses numbered 500 and above are graduate-level only. Maximum credit hours allowed for each course is shown immediately following the course identification number (i.e. 550-6). The maximum credit hours may vary, and specific credit hours may be assigned for each term a course is offered. All courses offered in a specific term will be listed in the appropriate Schedule of Classes which can be found at: registrar.siu.edu/schedclass.
